This is your chance to write, record, perform and sell your own song! During two weeks of intense creativity, students will write an original song. Students will experience the recording process and working with a music producer. All songs will be recorded by a Grammy Award winning engineer and performed by the student with our live band of Staump Production musicians. Each student will be given a block of recording time for their song. Students will rehearse their original music with the band in preparation for a live performance at the yearly Staump Summer Jam in addition to their recording. Students will be given an online worldwide distribution deal, Through this deal, their music will be made available to over 100 different countries and placed in over 700 online music stores including iTunes, Napster, and Spotify.

Past Summer Camp Songs

I speak to aspiring musician audiences all over the world. At my 2014 NAMM Show keynote, Tim Staump introduced himself to me and ask if I would speak at his music school in the San Diego area. I knew nothing about his school, but soon learned that he had a rare and special enthusiasm for teaching music to the youth of the area. He was providing a healthy, fun outlet for kids interested in learning music through his Staump School of Music, so I drove 3 hours down from LA to contribute a full day to this special place.
I noticed the school’s emphasis was on teaching strong lyrical hooks and catchy melodies. That’s real important when it comes to the future music success of the students, as those are the 2 most important elements of songwriting to learn.
And having met the entire private instruction staff and watching how they communicated with the students, I was really impressed with their professionalism, sensitivity, and passion for helping their students. They truly care, and they were fun people, too!
I found both the students and instructors to be incredibly warm and curious - a sign that Tim had cultivated an optimistic, inviting environment where kids could comfortably learn music. My day speaking there turned out to be one of my most fulfilling, enjoyable speaking experiences — I left knowing I got to part of something magical.
I asked him if I could speak again, and he invited me to back for the school’s upcoming 2 week summer songwriting camp - can’t wait!
